Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (17/06/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). This is a tiny plant, so easy to overlook. If you kneel down and inspect car parks and similar areas, you'll likely find some. I keep some areas of our car park unweeded so these tiny plants (and others) have some space. Although tiny, It's a more substantial plant than Lesser Swine-Cress and has larger flowers.
Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (17/06/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). Growing amongst a load of Knotgrass.
Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (06/04/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). A baby one. Has very thick (in comparison to the rest of the plant) stems and the flower start from the centre of each branching stem.
Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (06/04/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). Developing flower buds.
Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (06/04/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). My fingers showing the size of the plant.
Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (06/04/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). Classic leaves. Lesser Swine Cress doesn't have them pinnate leaflets - has simply leaflets instead.
Common Swine-cress (Lepidium coronopus) (17/06/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). This is why it is Common and not Lesser Swine-cress - these gnarly fruits. Lesser Swine-cress. instead has globular fruits.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). Classic for Lesser Swine-cress is these flower spikes - the things beneath the flowers at the top are the fruits which are not gnarly the way Common Swine-cress fruits are.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (05/05/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). The same specimen as the previous photo, which doesn't do justice to how small this specimen is.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (03/05/2022) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). Makro shot showing the tiny flowers. Common Swine-Cress instead has flowers in tight clusters nestling at the centre of the main stems (Lesser has them in short spikes along the stems as you can see here), plus Common Swine Cress has gnarly fruits.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (03/05/2022) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). The flowers are much smaller than those of Common Swine-Cress.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (03/05/2022) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). It can be a very prostrate plant which can become more obviously visible as can be mat-forming.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2020) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). Or it can be a bit more upgright and quite bushyt. Note also that it is hairy - Common Swine Cress instead is hairlesss.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (18/08/2020) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (arena bank by driveway). This was a really busy specimen.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (17/06/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park).
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (03/05/2022) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). A very small specimen.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park).
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). I think the inflorescenses are really pretty in a weird kind of way!
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). So tricky to photograph the flowers as they are so small. You can only use a makro lens.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). An absolute mat of it here.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (05/05/2021) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). It can be a very tiny plant, so you need to really get down on your knees to find them!
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (16/09/2023) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park).
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). A mass of fruits with some flowers still blooming right at the tip.
Lesser Swine-cress (Lepidium didymum) (29/06/2025) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (car park). The fruits are kind of dimpled.
